Product Care

Caring for your pieces
You’ve brought home a preserved specimen and I want to make sure it stays as beautiful as the day it arrived. These specimens are professionally preserved to last a lifetime but because they’re organic they do need a little bit of help to stay in peak condition.

Where to hang your frame
The biggest enemy of any specimen is the sun. UV rays will bleach the vibrant colours over time so it’s best to find a spot with indirect light. A hallway or a shaded corner in your house/office is perfect.
Also try to avoid ‘wet’ areas like bathrooms or spots right next to a humidifier. Moisture is a recipe for mould and we definitely want to keep your piece dry and pristine.

Long-term Protection
While your specimen is sealed in a frame, ‘museum pests’ (the tiny bugs that like to snack on organic art) can be a persistent threat to any collection. To keep your pieces safe I highly recommend using the Nocturne Ward system.

Nocturne Ward Patch: You can apply a Nocturne Ward Patch to the back of your frame to act as the base for your specimen’s protection. These are usually replaced once or twice a year.

Nocturne Ward Oil: You can apply a drop of Nocturne Ward Oil to the patch whenever you like to keep the protective barrier fresh and active.

• Note: Just make sure the oil stays on the patch. Keep it away from the glass and the specimen itself.

You can pick up a Nocturne Ward Bundle here to give your collection that extra layer of protection.

Keeping things clean
If the glass gets a bit dusty or shows fingerprints, just use a microfibre cloth. It’s always safer to spray your glass cleaner onto the cloth first rather than directly onto the frame. This prevents any liquid from seeping inside and affecting the specimen. Lastly if you’re moving house, keep the frame flat and give it plenty of padding. These specimens can be fragile!
